The 2025 Mustang GTD: Ford’s Most Powerful Mustang to Date

The new Ford Mustang GTD

The 2025 Mustang GTD marks a significant milestone for Ford, boasting the highest performance specs ever seen in a production Mustang. With a staggering 815 horsepower, 664 lb-ft of torque, and a top speed of 202 mph, this model is the fastest street-legal Mustang in history.

Performance and Cutting-Edge Technology

The Mustang GTD’s impressive power comes from a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, setting a new standard for Mustang’s performance. Alongside its powerful engine, the GTD integrates advanced technologies such as active aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes, and a sophisticated inboard-rear suspension with semi-active dampers. These features will support the car’s goal of achieving a sub-seven-minute lap time at the Nürburgring racetrack, showcasing its remarkable capabilities on both the street and the track.

Greg Goodall, Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer, stated, “We’ve been laser-focused since day one to make Mustang GTD the first-ever supercar with world-class performance and the soul of a Mustang.” He emphasized that the GTD’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8 delivers more horsepower per liter than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, highlighting the vehicle’s immense power.

Enhanced Engine for Maximum Performance

The Mustang GTD’s V8 engine has several key upgrades over previous models. Notably, it includes Mustang’s first-ever dry-sump oil system, designed to maintain optimal lubrication during intense cornering. This system allows the engine to hit a higher max speed of 7,650 rpm, an increase of 100 rpm over prior iterations. Additional improvements such as revised intake and exhaust systems, a titanium exhaust as standard, and a smaller supercharger pulley help the GTD reach its impressive power output.

Optimized Aerodynamics for Speed and Control

While raw power propels the GTD to its 202 mph top speed, Ford has equipped the car with a Drag Reduction System (DRS) to fine-tune its performance. The DRS can adjust the rear wing and activate flaps beneath the car’s front end to strike the perfect balance between speed and downforce. This adaptability ensures the GTD performs optimally under varying conditions, providing both exceptional speed and control.

As Greg Goodall put it, “We’ve combined the work of talented engineers and designers, as well as an extremely capable driver, with Mustang GTD technology, power, and aerodynamics.” He expressed excitement about delivering on Ford’s promise of a sub-seven-minute Nürburgring lap time for Mustang GTD owners.

A New Era for Mustang Performance

The 2025 Mustang GTD isn’t just another Mustang – it’s a supercar designed to push the boundaries of what a Mustang can do. With its impressive power, cutting-edge features, and unmatched performance, this vehicle cements its place as Ford’s fastest and most powerful production Mustang ever.
